Completed a Master’s degree in Hydrocarbon Chemistry at Kyoto University in 1983 and joined Nippon Oil (now ENEOS). Engaged in R&D, business development, and regulatory work across functional polymers, fuel cells, solar cells, energy storage, biofuels, and hydrogen energy. Served as a visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (Germany) and as Head of the Biofuel Assessment Group at JPEC. Since 2015, has focused on hydrogen and broader energy research toward carbon neutrality at the current institute. Appointed to the current position in 2026 after serving as a board member.
