Japan depends its large energy consumption almost on import from abroad Therefore planning and steady implementation of energy strategy with long-term and global views are crucial for our country to secure energy supply and maintain continuous economic growth.
The Institute of Applied Energy (IAE) has been conducting research activities from technological standpoint covering all energy sectors in response to various social needs of the time. Technology is an essential factor for Japan to retain and improve its competitive power, and also to establish its robust energy supply structure that could cope with any future risks. The IAE intends to continuously carry out our research based upon the recognition, “Technology creates the future of energy”.
The IAE stands on a unique position in collaboration with the industry, the academia and the government for the advanced research activities. Its scope of the work extends from nuclear, renewable and fossil energies, and global environmental issues to interdisciplinary studies encompassing various technical sectors and technology-society interface. The IAE has also been developing its own information platform of energy technologies and models for the evaluation. In April, 2008, a new unit named ”Nuclear Power Engineering Center” started its activity with the aim that the IAE should develop technologies for next-generation nuclear power reactors and simulation models for serious nuclear accidents.
The IAE will pursue formulating strategies and policies and also establishing the basis that could promote R&D activities in line with the strategies. We also look forward to any opportunities of collaboration with various areas of the society.
