The Institute was established on April 1, 1978 as the “Institute of Applied Energy” with the purpose of contributing to the sound development of the national economy through the establishment and improvement of a systematic foundation for energy technology. Recognizing that it is technology that will open the way to the future of energy, we have been diligently carrying out research activities as a think tank. In accordance with the reform of the public interest corporation system, the Institute became a “general incorporated foundation” on April 1, 2013.
In order for Japan to secure a stable energy supply and appropriately address global environmental issues, it is necessary to strategically plan and implement measures from a long-term, global perspective. The purpose of the Institute is to contribute to the solution of various problems related to the development, supply, and use of energy by conducting comprehensive research from a technological perspective through collaboration among industry, academia, and government.
